Amanzimtoti Rotary Club welcomes new president

Newly elected club president, Neil McDonald, looks forward to a year full of exciting projects, opportunities and serving the community.

THE Rotary Club of Amanzimtoti recently hosted the presidential induction of Neil McDonald at the Amanzimtoti Bowling Club.

“I am indeed privileged and honoured to be elected as the president of The Rotary Club of Amanzimtoti for 2022/ 2023. A year full of exciting projects and opportunities to look forward to. It’s a great privilege to serve the community of the Upper South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

I trust that we can get all our anticipated projects off the ground and see them all the way through. Some projects do take a little longer than others to materialise, but I am sure we will be able to make a difference in the lives of many people during my term of office.

I am taking over from a very capable president, Dr Penny Orton, who started some of the projects. The club members and I will continue with them and will try and make the best of every opportunity we have,” said Neil.

Their first project is the Pink Tree Drive for October, breast cancer awareness month. Anyone wanting to help with the sales of pink material can contact them.

Under the watchful eye of past president, Aneska du Pont, the club has also started the Master Baker Project. Aneska has been busy trying to pull out all stops to get this project off the ground. “We are also trying to get one of the local schools involved who have most of the facilities already. Once the student finishes the 18 months course, he/ she will be a qualified baker,” he said.

They are also looking at an early childhood development (ECD) project. Rotary will continue with their supply of food to some local charities from time to time, if and when they have a supply of food that they can distribute.

“Rotary has always been involved in winter warmth and we will continue with this. Thank you Penny for a sterling job done during your two years under very difficult circumstances,” said Neil.

He appeals for people to join the Amanzimtoti Rotary Club for the fact that there are people who do good in the community, but it never gets documented.

He said, “It will be good to join, so that we can get the information as to what people are doing, where and when. We will be able to log the total hours spent, the amount of money and goods donated, the area where the donation was given, and to make sure that not only one section of the community receives the help. We would like to see the donations evenly spread amongst all sectors of our area.”

For more information, or to join them in their various projects and donations, contact Neil McDonald on 083 597 8985 or email manager@khanyahospice.org.za.
