Toti’s community committee make headway

The members of this committee are striving daily to try and make a difference to all of us who live in the beautiful town of Amanzimtoti.

THE Priority Community committee recently met to discuss developments in their objective of obtaining service delivery from the council in the Amanzimtoti area.

“The transformation of this once beautiful CBD area is slowly taking place by the continued work of passionate people to change mindsets and getting involved with positive constructive work to make the difference,” said The View Boutique Hotel and Spa’s personal assistant, Lorraine Dercksen.

This week a passionate community member anonymously donated money to transform the green square by donating funds to upgrade the gardens. Carol and Lynton Dixie, business owners and committee members, sponsored plants to go on the river bank outside the Lifegro Centre.

Meetings have taken place with George Ross, a committee member, and Metro Police to have permanent police members be seconded to the area in order to enforce law and order regarding parking of vehicles and traffic enforcement and to show a presence in the CBD area.

Eugene Engelbrecht from Blue Security, will meet with the SAP in Amanzimtoti in order to carry out more police presence in the area and to arrange regular roadblocks to assist with law enforcement.

Chairperson, Tony Hill has meetings with eThekwini Municipality to attend to the weir which was erected many years ago to control the water flow, and has serious damage over the past years with flooding.

Jaco Pienaar, a business owner and committee member, has approached senior members of the electricity department in order to rectify the problems with street lighting in the Amanzimtoti area.

“Motivational letters have been drafted regarding capital projects that we would like to take preference in our CBD area which has been handed to the acting city manager,” she said.

The next meeting takes place at The View Boutique Hotel and Spa on Tuesday, July 12, at 17:30.
