Injured worker in Prospecton airlifted to hospital

Accorning to Isegen South Africa, the accident happened after an electricity malfunction.

AN Isegen South Africa employee in Prospecton in a serious condition in hospital after he was burned by hot chemicals while on duty on Tuesday, May 10.

According to another employee who is not authorised to speak to the media, the young male employee had only recently been employed permanently when the incident happened. Isegen South Africa manufactures chemicals used in various industries.

“He had been sent to open a certain valve but somehow there was a malfunction and and he was drenched from head to toe in hot acid,” said the source.

The injured employee was airlifted to hospital.

Isegen South Africa managing director, Grant Fowlds, confirmed the incident, saying it occurred following a disruption to the municipal electricity supply.

“Isegen’s injury response plan was immediately activated. The employee received immediate medical attention on site, was stabilised and then transferred to a specialist medical facility for further treatment where his condition is being closely monitored. The relevant authorities have been notified and an investigation into the incident is underway,” said Fowlds.
