THE eThekwini Municipality has reminded residents that Durban’s beaches remain closed, until further notice.
eThekwini Municipality spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela said the decision is informed by high levels of E. coli in the water as a result of recent KZN floods.
“All water activities are prohibited. Beachgoers, are urged to heed this warning unwaveringly, because disregarding it could result in outbreaks of waterborne diseases that may be fatal. Residents can still enjoy other activities along the beach that do not need any contact with sea water,” he said.
Mayisela added that municipal officials are tackling repairs to water and sanitation infrastructure damaged by heavy rains.
“Water tests, are carried out daily and the public will be informed once E. coli levels decrease to acceptable standards. The city apologises for the inconvenience,” he said.
