Clean Surf Project hosts beach clean-up

“Many clean-ups have come and gone with an enormous task still left behind to clear our precious coastline as plastic waste, debris, trees and other waste that have spread far."

CLEAN Surf Project recently hosted one of many clean-ups after the devastating KwaZulu-Natal floods, that caused plastic debris to wash-up along the coastline.

“Thank you to all community members for getting involved in the Illovo Beach clean-up. Bags of litter including polystyrene, polystyrene and more polystyrene were successfully filled. Thumbs up to eThekwini Municipality Parks and Beach Cleansing Department District 5 for assisting with the speedy removal,” said Clean Surf Project’s founder, Denzil van der Westhuizen.

Clean Surf Project in collaboration with St John’s DSG will be conducting a beach clean-up at Umbogintwini Beach, Athlone Park and Amanzimtoti on Saturday, May 7, from 09:00 to 12:00.

He said, “Many clean-ups have come and gone with an enormous task still left behind to clear our precious coastline as plastic waste, debris, trees and other waste that have spread far, in particular in remote areas offering limited access to the public.”

Bring along some gloves, shoes, water, sunscreen and a hat. Bin bags will be supplied. Parking is available outside the Amanzimtoti Country Club, 1 Golf Course Road, Athlone Park, Amanzimtoti.
“Please help us to keep our oceans plastic free,” he said.
