Toti’s community action group nominates committee members

Part of the plan is to have regular meetings with the city manager to ensure that the infrastructure and proper service delivery take place in the area.

THE new community priority action group was recently born and attended by about 30 enthusiastic community members.

The hosts of the meeting, held at The View Boutique Hotel & Spa, believe that there would have been much more people, however, due to the recent flooding and subsequent road closures, they were restricted.

The meeting was opened by George Lithgow, owner of The View Boutique Hotel & Spa, who chaired the first meeting. “He pointed out that the Amanzimtoti area had hit rock bottom and that we needed passionate people in the town to rectify the current situation.

Lithgow reiterated that he and the committee were not here to point fingers, instead they needed positive and passionate people to help turn the town around. He said it was imperative to obtain the support of eThekwini council in order to obtain a fair part of the financial aspect, in order to make this a success,” said CBD organiser, Amanda du Plessis.

This needed to be lobbied as early as possible to make sure they obtain the support.
“This is one of the main reasons that the town has become a patch job, because no real expenses had been made over the past few years in this beautiful town,” said Lithgow.

Part of the plan is to have regular meetings with the city manager to ensure that the infrastructure and proper service delivery take place in the area. He claimed that the heart of the town is the old CBD, and that it is in an appalling state, setting the tone of the town.

Lithgow also thanked the business leaders for opening up the river mouth early in the morning, to prevent further damage caused by the flooding of the CBD.

The nominated chairperson is Tony Hill, vice chairperson is Scott Amm and the committee members are Johnny Swanepoel, Carol Dixie, Linton Dixie, Margie Reen, George Lithgow and Eugene Engelbrecht.

The topic of conversation at the first meeting included law enforcement, infrastructure, road verges and litter.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 10, at The View Boutique Hotel & Spa at 17:30.
The committee invites community members interested in the planning and service delivery of the town and ask for any constructive problems/ thoughts they experience in order to uplift the community.
