PICTURES: Flooding on the South Coast

"Various roads are closed, mudslides, trees across roads, people trapped or housed in community halls as houses were washed away," said ward 97 councilor, André Beetge, describing the destruction across the city.

ANOTHER appeal has been made for people to please stay off the roads.

The N2 to Durban is closed, Prospecton road is congested, the left hand lane coming from Prospecton road towards Golf course road is washed away, there is extensive flooding in Isipingo and Prospecton with people trapped in houses and factories and water levels on the increase.

“We require assistance from people with rubber ducks and who know how to handle them in bad conditions. We require assistance from people with lifesaving experience,” said ward 97 councilor, André Beetge.

There is no refuse collection today. There are many electricity outages affecting entire suburbs, areas and blocks , let alone single households. Not only were a limited number of personnel able to get to work, but conditions are extremely dangerous for electrical work.

Multiple breaks in fibre lines, challenges with cell and radio signals, schools are closed, the R603 washed away towards Umbumbulu, several trees down but again, inability to get people to work and out on the streets due to road closures.

Beetge and those he is working with are reachable on 0827188137 or 0836370736, but request that calls be kept short and to the point so as not to congest the lines.
