State of disaster will soon end, says Dlamini-Zuma

President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to announce an end to the national state of disaster in the first week of April.

SINCE 2020, South Africans have been living in a state of disaster, which is one of the longest National State of Disasters in the world. However, when the new restrictions take effect, it will soon be over.

According to Minister of Cooperative Governance Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, the president will announce the end of the national state of disaster possibly around April 5, depending on remarks.

According to the new regulations, mask restrictions will no longer be required in public outdoor spaces under the new legislation. With the exception of school’s, social distance has been reduced from 1.5m to 1m.

Furthermore, the R350 social distress payment will no longer be provided as part of the state of disaster under the new legislation.

“The payment will remain, but it will be taken from the national disaster after 30 days and it will be continued through other means,” Dlamini-Zuma added.

The new regulations have been published in the media for public feedback and the public has 48 hours to provide comments.
