Winkle bowlers play club competitions

The bowling greens saw a full field of bowlers playing club competitions.

THE past week was extremely busy with a number of monthly competitions taking place at Winklespruit Bowling Club (WBC).

The first game played on the green was the Caltex twinkle women’s trips. The men’s team participated in the Victory Kwik Spar and Tops men’s trips. The John Dory drawn mixed trips was also contested, taking into account the two social bowls afternoons as well.

Well done to the men and women’s competition secretary’s for a splendid effort and a job well done and to the club’s president, André Gelderblom and Norma Raath, for ensuring the bar was stocked with refreshments. A special thank you to the green keeper, Innocent Ndlovu, for ensuring the green and surrounds are in top condition in each playing session.

Overall winners of the Caltex women’s twinkle trips were Pam C Royle, Kathy Cox and Jacqui Fouche. The second session winners were Annalie Pienaar, Maureen Griffin and Hannie Nel. The 100 board was won by Stella Erasmus and the mystery prize winner was Jacqui Fouche.

Thanks to the Amanzimtoti Bowling Club members who supplied plates of snacks, to Norma Raath for ensuring the refreshments where always available and to the sponsor, Caltex, for its continued support.

Overall winners of the Victory Kwik Spar and Tops men’s nominated trips were Alec Nel, Cleve Hein and Phil Whitton. The second session was won by Adie Fuller, Paul Davis and Brian Hollis. The 100 board was won by Fred Welch.

Thank you to Lorna Sourgen and Bessie Vergottini, who worked in the kitchen and to Norma Raath for the refreshments. Thanks also to the sponsors Victory Kwik Spar and Tops for its continued support.

Winners of the John Dory mixed trips were Brian Cox, Les Gibbens and Hannie Nel. In second place were Barrie de Wee, Basil Ananiadis and Tommy Maritz and third was Steve Liebetrau, Kokkie de Kock and Hans Nel. The 100 board was won by Rob Hilton.

Thanks to the sponsor John Dory for its sponsorship, and also to André Gelderblom and Norma Raath for the braai fires.

Internal club competitions can be self carded. Enter your names in the competition book on the table next to the bar stating the date and time so the green keeper can allocate a rink for play. Club colours must be worn by all players.
