The deceased consisted of five men and two women, aged between 26 and 32. Sipho Mthembu, 32, at whose home the murders happened in Mngadi Road, was among the victims along with his girlfriend, SanelisiweNgcobo.
The incident happened two weeks before Christmas.

At the time, provincial SAPS spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala, said Mthembu and his friends were sitting in a shack in the yard when unknown gunmen opened fire on them. Mthembu’s mother, Thandazile, also confirmed that his son was a drug user and had survived another shooting five months prior.

This week, Lieutenant Colonel Thembeka Mbele, confirmed that the police are still yet to make any progress in the case.

“The matter is still under investigation,” she said.
