Honouring a member of 15 years

The Amanzimtoti Athletics Club (AAC) hosted a memorial run for their long-standing member.

A memorial run was recently held for Lawrence Herron, 60, who died in a motorbike accident in front of Toti Centre.

Herron was a member of AAC for more than 15 years and was respected by all the members for his commitment to his training.

“He was quiet and reserved and preferred to train alone to apply the correct amount of focus to his training. He enjoyed endurance events and put an enormous amount of effort into the many hours he spent training,” said athletics club secretary, Jodine Momberg.

Herron participated mainly in triathlon events and achieved top 10 in his age category in each of them.

He also obtained 15 Comrades medals under his number 5252 between 1996 and 2011, with his most noticeable achievements being obtaining three silver medals, 11 Comrades runs under nine hours with his best time being 7:24:48 in 2001.
