The announcement comes following reports of a planned protest march from Curries Fountain.

In his statement, he recalls the riots that aggrieved all three of these campuses in November last year.

“This is to ensure the safety and security of staff and students. In the past such planned protest gatherings have turned violent, therefore the University wants to mitigate the risks attached to the protest action. Staff and student access to these three campuses will be prohibited tomorrow. The University’s campus protection team will remain on site to monitor the situation,”  said Khan.

He added that these campuses would reopen on Monday, 07 February 2022.

This year’s online registration for prospective students of the university will not be affected by the temporary closure of the campuses. For further information visit https://www.dut.ac.za/
