Register for Durban tourism awards

Businesses that are not yet registered with Sapphire Coast Tourism need to contact the office's Romy Wenzel to register.

THE Sapphire Coast Tourism office has encouraged registered community tourism members to enter for the inaugural Durban Tourism Awards set to take place in May.

Romy Wenzel requested businesses that are not yet registered with Sapphire Coast Tourism to contact her office to register. Sapphire Coast Tourism covers coastal and inland areas from Athlone Park in the north to Clansthal in the south. Entries for the awards close on February 25.

eThekwini Municipality spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela, said the awards’ aim is to recognise excellence and innovation in the tourism industry that attracts tourists to the city and surroundings, contributing to job creation and economic growth.

“The awards, scheduled to take place in May, will recognise products in the tourism industry value chain that inspire visitors’ trust by demonstrating the city’s high standards and commitment to excellence in the tourism industry. The awards aim to reward products that attract tourists to the city and contribute to job creation and economic growth. The awards categories include service excellence, tour operators, emerging entrepreneur, meetings and exhibitions, sustainable development, tour guides, upcoming filmmakers, and a special mayor’s award,” he said.

Each category will receive five nominations of four runners-up and one winner. The winner will receive cash with a monetary value of up to R30 000, a laptop, iPad, or tablet, six months of website development and maintenance, and complimentary data for six months.
