Fifteen rescued at Amanzimtoti beach

The men were cut off by high waves and could not swim to the shore.

FIFTEEN bathers were rescued on Saturday, January 1 after getting into difficulty while swimming at Pipeline Beach.

The incident was confirmed by Amanzimtoti beach manager, Jace Govender Mass who commended the lifeguards for a job well done under dangerous sea conditions.

In a video that has been making rounds on social media, the group was rescued after high swells cut them off about 50 meters in the ocean, and could not swim back to shore. The lifeguards had to use a boat to reach them.

No one of the rescued men required any medical treatment afterwards.
