Six people killed in Folweni shooting

The motive for the shooting is still unknown.

THE police are investigating six cases of murder and one case of attempted murder after six people were shot dead at a home in Folweni on Sunday, December 12, night.

SAPS provincial spokesperson, Brigadier Jay Naicker said a seventh person, a 27-year-old woman, survived and was taken to a local hospital. The alleged attack took place on Mngadi Road. The motive behind the shooting is still unknown.

“The police were only alerted (to the incident) by members of the community on Monday morning and they discovered the gruesome scene. Six bodies, which consisted of four men and two women, aged between 26 and 32, were found inside the house with multiple gunshot wounds. They were all declared dead at the scene,” said Naicker.

The KwaZulu-Natal Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi condemned the killings. “While we are still investigating the motive behind the killing, we suspect that it may be related to criminality in the area. We are appealing to the community to come forward with information that will assist in identifying those behind the killings,” he said.

The Provincial Investigative Unit has been tasked with the investigation.
