Cllr Beetge bags majority votes for ward 97

Ward 97 covers the areas of Doon Heights, Doonside, Warner Beach, Illovo Glen, St Winifreds and Amanzimtoti.

FOR a third consecutive term, councillor André Beetge has won the majority of the votes in ward 97 for the Local Government Elections.  Beetge expressed his gratitude and appreciation to everyone who took the time in exercising their democratic right and trusting his party to represent their interest on bread and butter issues.

“On noting our people’s complaints, which aligns with our manifesto and commitment towards a positive community, we plan on continuing our quest towards a cleaner and safer environment.  This will, however, not be possible alone, but instead, we call on every resident, business owner or responsible citizen to keep to by-laws, policies and procedures by disposing of refuse correctly, abiding by legislation, reporting faults as well as crimes and observing the life but also let live philosophy.”

He anticipates the formulation of a new ward committee in early 2022 that could see active citizens participating and assisting with the increasing service delivery. ALSO READ: More municipal queries answered by ward councillor

“We will continue facilitating law enforcement entities towards committing while at the same time, pestering municipal departments to align with expectation. However, and given the obvious, this is becoming more and more of a challenge with old and failing infrastructure, theft, vandalism and the no-care attitude displayed by so many.”

On the downside, he is extremely disappointed at the low turnout on Election Day.

“Experience has taught that the public demands 100% commitment and availability from public representatives, yet only 42% were prepared to commit their time and effort to ensure that we remain available to assist same. This is quite sad, given the personal sacrifices and effort extended towards the community yet often being asked regarding the difference of one vote. The reality being that the opposition gained a central Durban ward with one single vote. But let us not dwindle on the negatives, but instead focus on enhancing our community.”

“In this, we trust that our opponents, albeit unsuccessful at the polls, will nevertheless commit to the promises they made to constituents. Only by committing their time and efforts and working side by side will be able to build and improve the community that we call home. Enough talk, time to get things done by calling officials to task.”
