High speed chase leads to arrest in Amanzimtoti

The suspect's vehicle is suspected to be involved in numerous crimes, which occurred in the Hillcrest, Durban North and Berea areas.

A THEFT out of motor vehicle suspect was arrested on Monday, October 25 on the N2.

“At about 16:05, information was circulated by CCPO member, George Snodey, regarding a theft out of a motor vehicle which had occurred in the Warner Beach area. One of our response vehicles stood off within minutes and established that a laptop was stolen and what car was used by the suspects,” said ET Tactical Response Team (TRT) operations manager, Louis van Ryneveld.

The description of the vehicle used in the crime was circulated, and the TRT started searching the area.

“Shortly afterwards, one of our TRT members spotted the suspect’s vehicle at Seadoone Mall, where one occupant jumped out, and the vehicle started driving towards Seadoone Road, and our TRT followed. The suspect noticed he was being followed, and immediately sped off towards the N2 on-ramp and a pursuit ensued.”

The high-speed pursuit lead onto the N2 Southbound, where the suspect continued driving recklessly at high speed, almost forcing other vehicles off the road.

“As the suspect took the R603 offramp, he got stuck in traffic, and our TRT jumped into action, intercepting the vehicle, and arrested one suspect. Members of CCPO, Amanzimtoti SAPS Crime Prevention, and private security companies arrived shortly afterwards to assist. The vehicle was searched by SAPS, and members recovered the stolen laptop, and a car breaking implement.”

The suspect, and vehicle, was taken to Amanzimtoti SAPS for further processing.
