UIM candidate promises change

Carl-Heinz Jacobs said what makes him a good candidate in the upcoming elections is that he is not a politician, but a concerned citizen who has a voice and is willing to use it.

THE degeneration and lack of accountability by those in leadership positions has caused Carl-Heinz Jacobs to roll up his sleeves and stand for election as a United Independent Movement (UIM) candidate in the upcoming Local Government Elections.

The UIM is a new political party started in late 2020 and one of its main goals is to fight all forms of state, corporate and social corruption. It also promises to prioritise service delivery.Jacobs, who is UIM’s constituency chairperson for the South Coast, said the time has come for the excuses stop.

“Every time the community asks why certain things are not being fixed, the only thing they are given is excuses. People are tired of how Amanzimtoti looks and the way problems are addressed. Councillors need to take responsibility and be accountable to the people they lead. The community needs to stand up, otherwise the rot won’t stop,” said Jacobs.

He said the UIM is already showing how it cares about Amanzimtoti and recently led a cleanup campaign on Beach Road, collecting two truck loads of rubbish that had been accumulating by the roadside. This mobilisation of the community is what he would continue doing as a councillor.

“We are showing that it is possible to work together to improve our town. We can also work together to implement lasting solutions to problems that have been plaguing us for years, including water and sanitation. Right now the whole area from Athlone Park to Winklespruit is being dug up, but we still experience the same problems.”

Jacobs said what makes him a good candidate is that he is not a politician, but a concerned citizen who has a voice and is willing to use it. “Politicians will give you a T-shirt and food parcels while service delivery is neglected. A vote for the UIM will ensure that the residents gets the service they deserve,” said Jacobs.   DID YOU KNOW?
