Second-hand goods dealers urged to register businesses

A registration certificate will be issued to the applicant once the application is considered favourably and the applicant will be registered as a second-hand goods dealer authorising the dealer to carry on business.

Amanzimtoti SAPS reminds residents who run businesses dealing in second-hand goods is compelled to register as a second-hand goods dealer.

The act determines that every person who engages in the business of recycling any controlled metal must apply to be registered as a recycler in addition to being registered as a second-hand goods dealer. Additional premises where goods are stored must also be registered

“An applicant who wishes to register as a second-hand goods dealer must complete the SAPS 601 form and submit the completed form and all relevant supporting documents to the appointed Designated Second-Hand Goods Officer (DSO) at the police station in the area where the business premises is situated, for processing and consideration for approval by the station commander. The form is available on the SAPS website, www.saps.gov.za and registration is free,” said communications officer of Amanzimtoti SAPS, Captain Charlene van der Spuy.

A registration certificate will be issued to the applicant once the application is considered favourably and the applicant will be registered as a second-hand goods dealer authorising the dealer to carry on business.

“The registration certificate issued is valid for a period of five years from the date of issue and expires on the same day and month of the fifth year. An Application for the renewal of the registration certificate must be submitted not more than 180 days and at least 90 days before the certificate expire. Old certificates must be handed back to the police.”
