Bernice Pretorius recognised Attie Benson after seeing him in the article and decided to give him some work removing weeds growing along her street on Leslie Way.

“The municipality cleaners haven’t been here in over six months and weeds have been left to grow. What is making it worse is that my neighbours are dumping rubbish and building rubble right outside their properties. When one person dumps, others will follow suit and the place soon turns into an illegal dumping site,” she said.

Just like Miles and Anna Kendrick who started the initiative by hiring Benson to clean Rockview Road, she is paying him out of her own pocket. She said the open area next to Leslie Way has become a hotspot for criminal activity as drug paraphernalia can be occasionally seen discarded on the grass. Benson said he was grateful of the work as he is also making a contribution to keep Amanzimtoti clean.
