The establishing of new neighbourhood watches in the area comes as a response to the civil unrest experienced in July.

Several newly-established neighbourhood watch groups were recently formed with the purpose of keeping the community crime-free. The Amanzimtoti Community Police Forum (CPF) with the community formed nine interim neighbourhood watch committees.

“The objectives of the CPF includes providing oversight of the police and addressing immediate conditions in the community that gives rise to public safety issues. While the role of the NHW is to act as the eyes and ears of the community through patrols and working in close cooperation with SAPS and other structures involved in law enforcement to create a stable and crime-free environment,” said PRO of the Amanzimtoti CPF, Estelle van Eeden.

A priority of the CPF is to establish new neighbourhood watches.
