Dogs serve a purpose in society [LETTER]

I believe dogs were created to enrich our lives. We know that they can detect cancer long before the doctors.

EDITOR – I agree with your correspondent, but unless in the bush, I feel dogs should be on leashes if only for their own safety.

Dogs need to be walked every day and, as your correspondent mentioned, we must pick up after them. I am now in a complex that does not, sadly, allow pets.

I have been walking the SPCA dogs to compensate for no longer having one of my own.

I have just had an arm operation, but as soon as it heals, I will be back at the SPCA. The dogs appreciate their walkies so much.

I believe dogs were created to enrich our lives. We know that they can detect cancer long before the doctors. They are used to lead and care for the blind. They are used to detect drugs and explosives.

The latest news is that dogs are being trained to detect Covid-19.

A trained dog can go through, say, three hundred disembarking passengers from an aircraft in 30 minutes. How long does it take to test so many people?

It has been found that dogs can detect Covid-19 with a 94% accuracy, exactly the same as the scientific tests.
