Winklespruit Bowling Club temporarily closed due to Covid-19 restrictions

The decision was made after it was announced that the South Coast men’s pensioners league had closed all future games due to a Covid-19 related incident during its last outing.

THE president of Winklespruit Bowling Club (WBC), André Gelderblom, after consultation with the committee and some club members, announced that the club was closed from Friday, 25 June, until further notice.

The decision was made after it was announced that the South Coast men’s pensioners league had closed all future games due to a Covid-19 related incident during its last outing and that a large number of WBC’s members play in the pensioners league.

Taking in to account this information and under the present news of the ever increasing amount of new infections daily, the club’s president had no choice but to close the club to protect all its members.

In the women’s championship singles, Lou Lou Bingham beat Sheila Court.

In the men’s championship singles, Mike Kruger beat Eddie Bingham and in the men’s nominated trips, Freddy Hetterscheidt, Alan Raubenheimer and Les Gibbens beat John Scot, Tony Fitzsimmons and Keith Holmes.

The Clear Water Spur men’s 2-4-2 was played on Thursday, 24 June, and was very well supported with all the rinks full. As normal an excellent standard of bowls was played.

Thanks to the men’s competition secretary, Barrie de Wee for putting another wonderful and well-run morning of bowls together. Thanks to the women in the kitchen and bar for their contribution.

Thanks to the sponsor, Clear Water Spur for its continued support. Thanks to the bowlers from the club and other local clubs who continue to support the weekly events.

Winners of the Clear Water Spur men’s 2-4-2 were Basil Ananiadis and Fred Rautenbach. The second session winners were Phil Whitton and Fred Walsh while Ken Baker won the 100 board.
