Ride along for anti-drug awareness campaign

The ride will commence from Pipeline Beach at 10:00 along Beach Road where the group will split with one section backtracking establishments along Amanzimtoti's platinum mile.

An anti-drug awareness initiative will take place on Saturday, 26 June and promises to include both the organised biker fraternity and like-minded community members participating in a mass ride down Beach Road.
The programme is supported by delegates from SAPS, CPF, Metro police, Durban Biker Federation (DBF) and political leadership.

“It is no secret that our youth remain the prime target for drug pushers, SAPS welcomes all anti-drug partnership initiatives in this regard,” said Amanzimtoti SAPS communications officer, Captain Charlene van der Spuy.

The ride will commence from Pipeline Beach at 10:00 along Beach Road where the group will split with one section backtracking establishments along Amanzimtoti’s platinum mile. A second group will focus on the Warner Beach strip with the groups meeting up at Winklespruit and a ride towards Umkomaas. Following the mass motorcycle ride delegates will visit pubs between Amanzimtoti and Umkomaas. This is to solicit their written support in favour of Covid-19 compliance, not serving under 18s alcohol and most importantly, maintaining a drug-free social environment at their establishments.

“While we are elated at the enthusiastic response by the biker fraternity to the initiative of Tangled Thoughts, founded by former Amanzimtoti resident Sune Lee Henning, we have to emphasise that by no means are we suggesting that our local pubs are in contravention of any legislation. Actually, quite the contrary, as we believe our local proprietors are as much concerned about our youth’s future, but unfortunately one has to start somewhere,” said Councilor André Beetge who will also participate in the exercise.

The organisers wish to extend their gratitude towards councillor Andre Beetge, Lt-Col Kitching, Captain van der Spuy, S/Supt Nell, Sapphire Coast Tourism, DBF president Marius van Zyl and members Joes Boes, Danie Jordaan, Marius Conradie and MACS regional president Braam Stigling for all the arrangement to making the event a reality.
