Trevor Osborne became Amanzimtoti Bowling Club’s new men’s novice champion when he defeated Eddie Baker on Saturday, 19 June.

Congratulations to him and Eddie, who has done really well to reach the finals in his first year of bowls.

Octogenarian, Lofty van Tonder, showed that bowls is really a sport for all ages when he led his men’s drawn 4’s team of Mike Groom, Martin Birch and Fred Welch to a resounding victory in the finals against Clive Frank, Brian Masters, Cleve Hein and Fred Rautenbach, taking the honours once again.

In the women’s drawn 4s final the crown went to Marion Crouch, Talla Stephens-Viviers, Jane Coetzee and Sue Blount when they defeated Tokkie de Kock, Jackie Holdrick, Dawn Schauer and Jaylene Fagan.

Mike Groom and Ray Robinson took first prize in the men’s 2-4-2; second went to Eric Klopper and Barry Bush and the second session was won by Greg McLeod and Adie Fuller.

The big chicks mixed 4s competition was played on Sunday, 20 June, the winners were Dave Kemp, Fred and Sue Welch and Jacqui Fouché. Runners-up were Doreen Salmond, Eric Klopper, Vince Marriot and George Glaves and the second session went to Linden and Heather Cooper and Lesley and Talla Stephens-Viviers.

Mike Roberts won the 100 board at TGIF, but as Doreen Salmond was not present, the attendance draw will roll over to R550. John Hewgill got a chance at the key draw and managed to find a bonus key, so he won R100. However, the key did not open the box so the jackpot goes up to R5 105.

Both men and women’s teams will be playing league on Saturday, 26 June, and the men’s and women’s mutton 4s on Sunday, 27 June. The women’s trips will be played on Wednesday, 30 June.

The closing date for entries and payment to the men’s and women’s KZN pairs competitions is Thursday, 2 July.

Sue Welch is the only member celebrating a birthday next week, best wishes to her.
