Kingsburgh Welfare celebrates Youth Month

To help young job seekers and aspiring entrepreneurs, the welfare will host a computer skills workshop to develop basic computer literacy and a basic electrical workshop.

In honour of Youth Month, Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare remains committed to empowering young people in the community.  The organisation has partnered with renowned puppeteer and founder of Creative Madness, Peter Court, to launch a puppet show and drama interactive theatre at a local primary school. This programme will help develop character, resilience, self-respect and emotional development. The initiative is led by an enthusiastic, dedicated, talented young actress and storyteller, Londiwe Ngwazi who has been running the Creative Madness Visual Arts programmes in primary schools in the Free State. She believes that these programmes give children the expressive outlet to enhance their development.

“In our work at Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare, we see the challenges that young children face in their lives which they are most likely to carry into their teenage and young adulthood if there are no interventions. This year, we are running programmes that tackle the development of emotional and spiritual intelligence from a young age as well as empowerment programmes for out of work youth to develop their employment and entrepreneurial opportunities,” said Iris Canham, chairperson of Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare.

To help young job seekers and aspiring entrepreneurs, the welfare will host a computer skills workshop to develop basic computer literacy and a basic electrical workshop. The electrical workshop will teach basic skills such as fixing small appliances, wiring a plug, replacing socket covers etc. Towards the end of June, CV writing and interview skills will be covered at the workshop.

For more information on the workshops and to receive further details, send an email to sandra@kingsburghwelfare.org.za stating your enquiry or call 031-916-2274.

Counselling for youth is also available on Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment only.
