Diseases house flies might carry include: Food poisoning, diarrhea, chorela and other infections.

What attracts houseflies to your home?

Sometimes we ignore the small things that could be attracting flies. Houseflies are mainly attracted by material in which they can lay their eggs, this includes: rotting material, including food waste and other garbage. Food that is left open and unattended for a long time may also attract flies, and animal feces Poor sanitation and ripped screens and unsealed cracks in windows and doors can also lead to house fly infestations. If you’re facing an infestation, the first thing you need to do is clean your house thoroughly with a disinfectant like bleach. Vacuum and wash all surfaces with a disinfectant spray or wipe to get rid of any fly eggs.

Five ways to get rid of houseflies:

1. Vinegar Use vinegar and dish soap. A mixture of vinegar and dish soap can help you trap flies. To use this method, mix about an inch of apple cider vinegar and a few drops of dish soap in a tall glass. Cover the glass with plastic wrap. Secure the plastic wrap with a rubber band and poke small holes in the top. Flies will be attracted to the vinegar in the glass and will fly through the holes. However, the dish soap causes the flies to sink instead of being able to land on the vinegar.

2. Cayenne pepper and water Cayenne pepper can help repel houseflies. Mix cayenne with water in a spray container and spray around the house to deter flies from coming in. You could chop or grind up fresh cayenne or use dried powder to make the repellant. Dried cayenne is stronger and more effective, but it loses potency faster. Spray more of the repellant when you can no longer smell it in the air. Ginger is another strong spice that repels flies. Use it when you don’t have any cayenne powder.

3. Plants Flies dislike certain plants. A pot of mint may be worth purchasing if you are often struggling with flies. If you place it next to a door or window, it makes it less likely that flies will enter this way. But using mint around the kitchen area can also help to keep away flies from those areas that you definitely don’t want infested, such as the kitchen worktop you tend to use when cutting up vegetables and handling meat. Herbs and flowers can be planted both in your garden and outside to keep flies away from your house.

4. Oil Essential oils have proven their essential status when it comes to treating houseflies. Essential oils, such as lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint, and lemon grass, not only possess gentle aromas, but they also work effectively in keeping away the house flies. Spraying such oils in your living area, bedroom, or even kitchen will keep them free from flies.

5. Using the fan It is one of the hassle-free and easiest ways to get rid of flies as you really don’t have to do anything to keep flies away from your doorstep. Just switch on the fan direct the flow of air towards the window or doors and it will blow away all the flies and keep others from entering. Source: Heathline.com online
