Residents urged to renew firearm licenses

Appointments are to be made at Amanzimtoti SAPS, room 1 between 7.30am and 12pm.

Residents wanting to apply for firearm license and competency are urged to take note of the guidelines and procedures.

“Applicants will need to have an updated safe installation that is affixed flush to the floor or wall or other immovable structure or part thereof of a house, flat, residence or other place of dwelling.  Handgun safes to be installed with not less than two 10mm rawl bolts.  Rifle or shotgun safes to be installed with not less than five 12mm rawl bolts, two on top, two at the bottom and one in the floor.  Failure to comply with the above could render the application unsuccessful,” said communications officer of Amanzimtoti SAPS, Captain Charlene van der Spuy.

The required documents for application for new fire-arm licenses include the SAPS 271 form, two colour ID photos, two certified copies of identity documents, a certified copy of competency, detailed motivation for the purpose of the firearm, photos of safe, R140 and two sets of finger prints. Required documents for a new competency application include the SAPS 517 form, two colour ID photos, two certified copies of identity documents, a certified copy of training certificate, a certified copy of statement of results, any other supporting documentation (optional), three references, R70 and two sets of fingerprints.
