Choices for Life celebrates 30 years

Last year, the organisation joined forces with Seed of Hope to create a new beginning and new journey for both community-driven initiatives.

It was a bittersweet moment for the founder of Choices of Life (CFL), Gail Schreiner, who celebrated 30 years since the organisation first opened as well as her retirement.  From humble beginnings, the organisation bloomed and has assisted countless people who have walked through its doors. To celebrate the incredible legacy that Gail has left, an extra special event was held in her honour on Tuesday, 30 March. The event was graced by the presence of several members of the community and included stories from people who were assisted through the organisation.

“It’s been an absolutely amazing to see people transform their lives and making good choices. It has been an absolute joy to be part of this organisation and to walk the journey with so many different people and different sectors. I feel relieved in a way, but at the same time, I think the time is right for me to retire. Leaders must know when is the right time to step away. It is like a relay race, if you step away too quickly or hang on too long you could lose the race. I know this is the right time,” said Gail.

Last year, the organisation joined forces with Seed of Hope to create a new beginning and new journey for both community-driven initiatives. CFL’s main focus is to reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies especially among the youth, intervene by providing counselling to families that are faced with unplanned pregnancies and sustain the organisation through the Choices Thrift Shop and other fundraising activities.

CFL now provides online counselling for the community making it more accessible and safer in times of restricted movement due to the pandemic. Community members can now send a WhatsApp message to 031-903-7359.
