Amanzimtoti Turning Point honoured for youth empowerment

Turning Point Qhakaza assists the community by providing support and counselling in terms of gender-based violence and other forms of violence, crime and abuse.

It was indeed a special moment when Amanzimtoti Trauma Unit (Turning Point) Qhakaza received the runner-up award for youth empowerment.  The award was presented at the 2021 Women’s Voice and Leadership Summit was held from Wednesday, 3 March, to Monday, 8 March, at Gender Links Cottages, Observatory, Johannesburg.

“It included a two-day competition where grantees presented their community projects in eight different categories to a panel of judges. The grantees also attended leadership and diversity training for two days. The grantees attended the International Women’s Day and Women’s Voice and Leadership Awards at Kepohong Conference Centre in Kempton Park,” said project manager, Norma-Jean Veldsman.

The event was attended by dignitaries from Canada, Netherlands, Britain, South Africa and the awards were announced by gender links special advisor, Colleen Lowe Morna.

“We are thankful to our team, staff, interns, management and funders for their contribution towards this project and the community. Our goal is to implement our youth projects into as many schools or youth groups in our surrounding urban and rural areas.”
