Shedding light on extended load shedding hours

This is especially important on grids where there are clustered accommodations such as large blocks of flats and complexes or businesses.

Certain areas in Amanzimtoti and surrounding areas are often left with additional hours to their scheduled load shedding. In light of this ward 97 councillor, André Beetge explained why the problem persists.

Load shedding is albeit unwelcome, a reality and it’s certainly not going to become any better in the near future. Switch the main power supply off during load shedding and switch back on during the half hour after load shedding to reduce the immediate demand on the system once the period is finished.”

This is especially important on grids where there are clustered accommodations such as large blocks of flats and complexes or businesses.

In addition to geysers, residents also run air conditioners, refrigeration, catering equipment, as these all causes a demand overload on the system which in turn, causes the system to trip upon power restoration. Food in a fridge or deep freeze will not spoil within minutes or even hours of the power supply not being restored. Keep fridges and deep freezes closed to trap the cold air in, especially during very hot exterior conditions.”
