[WATCH] – Young Amanzimtoti rider and horse share a remarkable bond

On Saturday, 27 February, Demi and Archie placed first for dressage and obstacle course at a competition held at the Amanzimtoti Stables.

Ten-year-old Demi Buys has an incredible bond that her horse, Archie. After watching popular television show, Heartland, Demi instantly fell in love with horses and two years ago she met Archie. She didn’t have a horse before, but her cousin used to horse ride and she was introduced to the Amanzimtoti Stables where her passion grew in leaps and bounds.

“I like when we have a bond and we both are connected. Sometimes we both know what to do at the same time,” said the little girl.

She had to learn how to halt, walk and trout the horse.

“I learnt at the ranch and took lessons. My favourite is jumping.The bond Archie and I have is amazing. I want to be a professional horse rider in the future. I do rides about three or four times a week when its not raining. But, I see Archie everyday to take care of him and feed him his dinner. I have to bath and groom him, clean his feet, brush his hair and clean his eyes as well as give him his dinner, take him to the dentist and make sure he gets his eye medicine,” said the Warner Beach resident.

Archie is 16-years-old and the pair have competed in several competitions.

“We competed in jumping, dressage, dress up, equestrian and obstetrical courses competitions. I also won first place for a fancy dress competition. My message to other young riders is to never be scared to hop on a horse a build your bond. I love Archie a lot.”
