[WATCH] – Amanzimtoti author publishes two more books

The talented writer enjoys writing unusual stories with characters who are out of the ordinary.

Amanzimtoti author, Siphumelele Kubheka, has once again unleashed his creativity and passion through his two recently published books.  The books titled, Ignighted and Planet of the Rings: Volume One, promise to take the reader into new worlds. The author who now goes by a pen name, Bernard Bayede, which pays homage to his father, is eager and delighted to share both books with the public.

“It took me one year to write the books. It was good to have a goal in 2020. I believe that lockdown assisted me because as a writer I tend to procrastinate, but in lockdown, I was only able to write.”

Siphumelele now has three published books.

“Planet of the Rings consists of short stories and all intertwine with each other. Each story leads to the next one. It’s a fantasy novel with a bit of fairytale in it. I took inspiration from different types of fantasy. The first story is about a vampire that follows a woman, who comes to a Victorian city that is infested with vampires at night, and she’s told not go out. But, curiosity gets the better of her.  The second part of the book focuses on an African fantasy that’s in a frozen continent. The story follows the second son of a king who tries to find his honour. The third story follows an urban fantasy theme. Each story stands by itself, but they also intersect with each other. It was important for me to have each story be individual, but also connect to the others. I only printed a few copies, I want to have a demand for the books before there is a supply.”

The talented writer enjoys writing unusual stories with characters who are out of the ordinary.  The second book he wrote focuses on ‘sport opera’ that involves Formula 1 racing.

“It is a strange way to go especially in South Africa since it is not as big as it is in other countries. I specifically choose it because I wanted to write about sport, but I wanted something where men and women play on the same field without any prejudice. Equality between sexes is an underlying aspect of the book. There are many female characters in the book who are strong. There is an anti-racism theme in the book as well. The story takes place on an island that is considered a paradise that knows no colour. This a new genre that I have created, it takes aspects of soapies and combines them with sports.”

Books can be purchased at Scribbles in Kloof and he is in the process of approaching Adam’s Book Stores as well. Siphumelele was recently engaged and is thrilled to begin a new chapter in his life.
