WATCH: Vehicle thieves crash out in Amanzimtoti after high-speed chase

They collided with a municipal waste truck near the corner of Kingsway and Inyathi Road.

Four vehicle thieves were arrested and a stolen vehicle recovered by armed response officers and police following a high-speed chase in Toti on Saturday, 16 January. The vehicle, which was being sought by SAPS on a Pinetown theft of motor vehicle case, was circulated over the CCPO network after it was seen in the area. “One of our response officers proceeded to the N2 to hold observation for the vehicle, which was spotted travelling northbound. He followed it and called for assistance,” said ET Rapid Response South Coast managing member, Tony Lokker. The suspects noticed they were being followed and increased their speed, driving recklessly and changing lanes through traffic, with the officer in pursuit. They then diverted from northbound to southbound and the pursuit continued through the Prospecton area. They headed towards Athlone Park on Kingsway, but collided with a municipal waste truck near the corner of Kingsway and Inyathi Road. The four suspects sustained injuries from the collision and were arrested by a large contingent of private security, CCPO, SAPS Flying Squad and Metro Police officers who arrived to assist. “Thanks to the members who came to assist and well done to our member for his commitment and bravery,” said Lokker.
