Edu Paw inspires community

One such individual is Patrick Dlomo, who contacted the organisation for assistance and since then has become an ambassador for animal care in KwaMakhutha.

While classes at Edu Paw have been put on hold due to lockdown, inspirational messages and videos are pouring into the organisation’s social media.  Learners and those who were previously assisted by the organisation are committed to educating their communities. One such individual is Patrick Dlomo, who contacted the organisation for assistance and since then has become an ambassador for animal care in KwaMakhutha.

“I loved animals since I was a child and I learned a lot from my father. I worked with many dogs and cats,” said the 41-year-old. “Children in the area are learning a lot and it is wonderful. I stress the importance of sterilisation and proper animal care. A lot of people still need to understand why caring for animals is important.”

The organisation is conducting virtual classes via WhatsApp and almost 50 families are on the group.

“Patrick has not done the Edu Paw eight week programme, but contacted me for help with his dogs during lockdown. We assisted him to have his dog sterilised and vaccinated and it is so wonderful to see him passing the baton to children,” said founder of Edu Paw, Cathy Keegan. “On week four of our programme we teach about ticks, fleas and mange. We also show the children how to bath their dogs. It’s so encouraging receiving these videos of the learners putting into practice what they were taught.”
