Kuswag Skool crowns its Dux for 2020

Finals have been a bit more difficult than trials.

Rita van Rouendal is the well-deserving Dux at Kuswag skool. For matric trials she scored 89% for Afrikaans, 93% for business studies, 92% for English, 90% for history, 89% for hospitality, 89% for life orientation, 85% for maths, 95% for tourism, 73% for physical science and 75% for accountancy to receive a 90.5% average.

“Finals have been a bit more difficult than trials. I was not happy with how hospitality, accountancy and physics went in trials, but accountancy and hospitality went went in finals. The extra work I put in paid off. I will be sad if I have to re-write maths and physics, as both went well. I enjoyed working from home during lockdown, as it felt like I could do more at home.”

Rita is taking a bridge year next year and has enrolled in an Ignite programme at Heal The Land Church in Pretoria, where she will study ministry and business. “I would like to have ministry incorporated in my life.”

The 18-year-old has lived in Toti for five years. She attended Lichtenburg Primary School when her family lived in the North-West. She played for the Kuswag first team netball and made KZN for action netball. She also participated in athletics, where she was the top in shot-put in her class, and ran the 400m.

She received the camaraderie prize at school – the teachers’ choice and children. She was a member of the ATKV jeug tak, helped organise a blood drive at her school and was involved in ministry at school. “I am hoping for an average of 90% or above for finals.”
