EIS Engineering & Industrial Supplies was started in Jacobs in 1987 by brothers Celes and Gino da Silva, a Mechanical Engineer and Chartered Accountant respectively. Today it is Durban’s largest professionally run independent engineering and industrial supplier with the widest range of consumables, small machinery and hardware. EIS caters for the manufacturing, engineering and fabrication industries as well as the DIY market.

They were the first shop in Durban to sell both fasteners and tools under one roof and the first shop to offer the self-service shopping experience. With pioneering ideas such as stocking tools as well as fasteners, a one-stop shop for the industry, and a self-service store layout, EIS has stood out from the rest. This combined with a massive stock holding with over 19000 different product lines has created an amazing environment for both the professional and the DIY enthusiast that not only satisfies but also inspires great ideas.

Every order is important no matter how small or large the business or size of the order. The success of the company can be attributed to the ambitions and hard work of the owners and the innovative self-service set up which has since been copied but never mastered by our competitors. Customer service is paramount, and the core focus of the business and the motto is “understanding your needs is our business.” With EIS becoming a household name, Celes and Gino decided to franchise EIS using their knowledge and the EIS name. Rajen Gounden opened EIS Pinetown in November 2007 and has never looked back. 13 years later he runs a tidy operation in Crompton Street which has grown rapidly year on year and has contributed to making the EIS name stronger.

The EIS group consists of 183 staff, 29 delivery vehicles and over 5000m2 of showroom & storage space between the two branches.
