Be alert to Amanzimtoti thieves

Shoppers are warned that opportunist thieves are operating at the malls.

The CCPO warns homeowners of a gang of criminals that is driving around in the early hours of the morning, derailing gates, forcing gates open and cutting locks off gates to gain access to properties. “Make sure your gates cannot be derailed and your motor cover has an anti-theft bracket fitted,” said committee member, George Snodey.

“If you hear your dogs barking, get up and look, but don’t put any lights on. If you see them at your gate, you need to call the CCPO. Do not go out and confront them, as they are possibly armed. We have plenty of members who carry radios that can respond, so call the emergency number (083-393-5066) as quickly as you can. Get a cut-out switch fitted as soon as possible if you really need your vehicle, because tomorrow could be too late.”

Two remote car jammers were apprehended in a combined effort by response officers after a high speed chase on the N2 on Friday, 7 November. “We received a call from a business owner in Doonside that there was a suspicious vehicle suspected to be remote jamming at her property. Our tactical response team (TRT) and the CCPO were dispatched,” said ET Rapid Response South Coast managing member, Tony Lokker.

The suspects had left the premises by the time the officers arrived, but ET’s Ashley Naidoo drove past them just before he arrived. “Once the suspects realised we were onto them, they sped off onto the N2. After a short chase, Ashley managed to stop the vehicle. Two suspects were detained with the help of the CCPO officers who were close behind and a National Security member who also stopped to assist.”

Toti SAPS arrived and the vehicle was searched. It was established it had false registration plates and car jamming equipment was found hidden in the car. Both suspects were detained for further investigations.

Shoppers are warned that opportunist thieves are operating at the malls. A holiday maker had her wallet stolen out of her sealed handbag at a Doonside shop this week after the thieves distracted her.
