Help out on Poppy Day

Volunteer an hour to ‘shake a can’ at a shopping centre or mall.

Sign up as volunteers to assist the South African Legion on Poppy Day on Saturday, 7 November. The legion provides assistance to all former servicemen, women and their families in dire straits and depends entirely on donations to carry out its welfare work. The organisation is granted only one Saturday each year for street collections and the more collectors, the greater the income.

“If the public can volunteer an hour or so of their time that day to ‘shake a can’ at a shopping centre or mall close to where they live, the legion will be able to offer more to those in need. This is one of the legion’s main functions and it goes a long way towards satisfying our motto: Not for ourselves but for others,” said Johann Kruger.

Volunteers will not only collect funds, but raise awareness for the legion and the work it does in the community. A list of collection points is available online at www.salegion.durban. Covid-19 regulations will be followed and volunteers will wear masks while collecting. To offer your services and find out venues where collections will be done, call Johann on 031-205-0578.
