Wanderers Haven celebrates first birthday

In celebration of this milestone, the organisation will host two fundraising events on Saturday, 26 September.

Wanderers Haven celebrated its first birthday on 27 August and despite been fairly young, numerous residents and families have benefited immensely.

“In just a year we have managed to help several families, former addicts and individuals in need. People need love, support and care, and so many of them have no other way to gain these aspects, so they turn to us and God for assistance. Humanitarian work means that there is a lot of emotion involved, but we rely on God to be the light that shines through all of the darkness. Even a small difference can make a huge impact in someone’s life,” said co-founder of the organisation, Sharon Swanepoel.

In celebration of this milestone, the organisation will host two fundraising events on Saturday, 26 September. A walk of faith will take place from Thirsty Whale to Wanderers Haven at 9am and a market day with stalls, jumping castles and musics is also set to take place. The stalls are available at R100 and bookings with payment to be conducted by Tuesday, 15 September at the organisation’s office at Life Gro Centre, which is situated at 27 Commercial Road.

“Seeing how people’s lives have improved over time is most rewarding. We do face challenges, but we are here to make a positive difference in the community. A township programme is also something that we are working towards. This will focus on assisting the youth to make positive decisions. We also currently conduct feeding schemes on a Wednesday in several rural areas. We appeal to the community to support our fundraising initiatives to help our organisation grow,” she added.
