Amanzimtoti bikers rev against farm murders

The goal was for the government and the world to see that the people have had enough.

Local bikers joined thousands nationwide to rev their engines in support of the peaceful protest ‘Bikers Unite Against Farm Murders and Racism’ on Saturday, 29 August. The KZN Motorcycle Alliance (KMA) organised the various rides in the province and all six biker federations in KZN assisted. South Coast and Toti riders gathered in masses at Engen Galleria, with hundreds of bikers supporting the ride.

“We joined the Pietermaritzburg and North Coast riders over Spaghetti Junction and proceeded through to Durban to the court house, where we laid down roses and crosses in remembrance of farm murder victims,” said local biker Truzanne Minny. “We then travelled back to Amanzimtoti via the M4 and got together at Lords and Legends, where a few words were spoken by KMA chairman, Marius van Zyl, as well as ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge, after which a kneeling prayer was raised up for our farmers.

“The goal was for the government and the world to see that the people have had enough. Farm murders are real and must stop. I’m happy to say we reached our goal – the ride went well without incident and people noticed.”

Truzanne reported that all over KZN rides happened, with Pietermaritzburg bikers coming through Marian Toll and others from PetroPort. “Together we had hundreds of bikes going through to Durban. In the North Coast and inland areas several smaller rides were done. Nationally we had over 40 000 bikers who supported and attended this ride, and the response and support has been overwhelming.”
