Amanzimtoti homeowner stabbed in brazen attack

Thinking he needed to protect his daughter from harm, the pair exited the house.

A Len Nicol Road resident was lucky to escape with his life when he was stabbed three times and assaulted in the street while protecting his 11-year-old daughter on Monday, 31 August. The man, who wants to remain anonymous, said he was working from home when a thug jumped over his wall. “When I went outside, I saw him duck behind a wall.” He went back inside and locked his door, but the thug started to pull at his burglar door. Thinking he needed to protect his daughter from harm, the pair exited the house via another door to escape after he called the CCPO, but the thug caught sight of them and chased them down the road. “When I turned around, he was right behind us and he stabbed me three times – in both shoulders and my temple. We started to struggle and when I lost the panga I had taken with me, he picked it up and started hitting me with it, demanding my cellphone.” He threw his phone on the ground and the thug ran off with it. The CCPO responded to his call and chased the suspect, but he managed to evade arrest. The man received stitches to his stab wounds and is recovering at home. “The people who can afford to pay for the CCPO, should do so. These kinds of incidents are going to continue until people realise that times have changed and you need a lot more security than before,” said CCPO committee member, George Snodey.
