Switch off appliances during loadshedding

This is especially evident in the 8am to 10am and 4pm to 6pm cycles.

Residents are requested to switch all electrical appliances, including geysers, heaters and air-conditioners, off during loadshedding. This comes after the system was overloaded on Friday morning, 14 August, leaving Doonside without electricity for a number of hours until the problem was rectified.

“Such appliances can then be switched back on during the hour after loadshedding. By doing this, the immediate demand on the system is drastically reduced when the power is reintroduced at the end of the loadshedding cycle, thus eliminating the chances of tripping or substations failing due to an immediate demand spike,” said ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge.

This is especially evident in the 8am to 10am and 4pm to 6pm cycles when geysers and stoves are in use.
