CCPO warns about unscrupulous gold ‘buyers’ in Amanzimtoti

Snodey also warns victims not to let the police refuse to take your statement.

The CCPO warns the public to be on the lookout of thieves posing as gold buyers. This comes after a Pananrama Flats resident in Warner Beach had her gold chain stolen by two men.

“Don’t let these guys who are going around door to door, buying gold jewellery into your homes,” warned the CCPO’s George Snodey. “These guys are unscrupulous and this is not the first time it has happened. They are busy all over, from the Bluff to Scottburgh.”

Snodey also warns victims not to let the police refuse to take your statement. This comes after a Toti resident had his car stolen on the Bluff on Tuesday morning, 4 August.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, said SAPS promised to send a vehicle to where it happened, but when that failed to materialise, caught a lift to Toti. “I went to the police station to report it and they said I needed to go back to the Bluff to make a statement, as that is where the incident happened.”

Snodey said the police are not allowed to turn you away. “They have to take your statement and send the docket to the relevant station. Don’t allow them to give you the runaround.”
