Rugby player recovers well 

An injured Toti second team rugby player had to receive treatment at the field for a suspected neck injury.
Adrian Cunningham pulled muscles in his pelvis which caused severe neck pain. He was attended to by a medic at the scene and emergency services were summoned. They were attending a cardiac case and Toti Fire and Rescue went to the scene. According to John Thomas of the club, rescue services stabilised Adrian.

Gymnasts head for Berlin 

Toti will have 18 of its gymnasts going to Berlin, Germany, for the 10th World Gymnaestrada in July.
The 18 include the coach, gymnasts and parents. The trip was made possible with funds raised over the past year. A travel voucher worth R5 000 was raffled, as well as a painting and also generous donations by companies and friends.

Street children arrested in Athlone Park 

Three street children were arrested in Athlone Park on Sunday, in connection with housebreaking and the theft of bicycles.
Cpt Anton Booysen said he found the children in the cells on Monday morning. Sgt Ske Mchunu was the arresting officer. Sgt Mchunu said the two 11-year-olds and one 14-year-old had been arrested previously and had escaped from a ‘place of safety’.

Poor turnout for Prospecton Watch 

The Prospecton Business Watch was established at a meeting last week, despite lack of support from the majority of businesses in the area.
Cpt Anton Booysen, Community Policing officer said it was important for businesses to get involved in preventing crime, as there wasn’t much preventing people from from committing crime. “The abolishment of the death sentence and corporal punishment, as well as police not being allowed to detain juveniles means there is little or no risk to criminals of being prosecuted,” said Booysen.

Atri’s into drugs 

Get Drug Wise! Monday, 26 June was National Drug Abuse Day and the catchphrase of the day was ‘just say no!’
The only active Drug Wise counsellor in Toti is Atri Wilson, of Lagoon Pharmacy and she offers counselling to drug abusers and their families. “You have not failed as a parent,” is the most important message Atri conveys to the parents of substance abusers. She emphasised that the actions of children are often not a reflection of their upbringing and she urges parents who suspect their children may be abusing drugs to contact her.
