New CEO appointed at Seed of Hope

I’m in support of the SOH vision of restoring communities through restored individuals.

The Seed of Hope (SOH) organisation in Bhekuwandle has a new leader at its helm after the resignation of Kierra Ward as CEO last month. Londiwe Myeza, 39, took over on 1 May, but she has been managing the organisation since March.

She is not new to SOH, having served as a board member for two years. “One of the board members was my pastor. He knew of my passion for community development and he approached me to join.”

She was born in Nongoma and lives in Durban. She attended KwaMdolo Primary and King Bhekuzulu High School in her home town. After school she studied at the University of Zululand, where she graduated with honours in communication science.

Asked if Kierra’s resignation come as a surprise to her, she replied: “Resignations are never a surprise to me since we are all in the process of growing. I also didn’t think I would leave SAPREF last year, but some things cannot be avoided.

“After university, I started at a junior level as an administrator and progressed to outreach facilitator for the Office of the Public Protector for a year. I also joined Sasol as a communications practitioner. My previous employment was at SAPREF, where I held the communications and CSI specialist position.”

She is not married, but has 15-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son.

Asked if she has her own vision for SOH going into the future, Londiwe said: “I’m in support of the SOH vision of restoring communities through restored individuals. The biggest challenge for me has been taking over this position during these Covidd-19 drastic changes and, as CEO, I needed to find creative ways of serving our community. Also, to get the team to support the new way of doing things even with limited resources.

“The changes I would like to see is that the organisation becomes self-sustainable through social entrepreneurship initiatives. I would like for individuals and organisations in Toti and around to help us in the following ways:

* Partner with SOH through different initiatives.

* Make use of our resources as well so that they can be mutually beneficial.

* Create awareness of our different programmes.

* Professionals to volunteer at SOH with their skills.”

Londiwe belongs to a book club and was the president of the Refined Toastmasters Club. Her hobbies include reading, running and swimming. “For fun I enjoy attending social events with friends. I have been working quite a lot during the lockdown, since we had to help our community with food parcels and also provide some of our services online.”
