Amanzimtoti municipal news

Residents are requested not to interfere with officials.

Ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge shares the latest municipal news.

Rates rebate

The annual deadline of 30 April for rate rebate applications has been extended to 31 May. “Residents can relax and attend to this after the lockdown.”

Garden refuse sites and illegal dumping

Garden refuse sites are CLOSED – the municipality is continuing with their daily domestic refuse collection in line with the normal weekly collection schedule. “Residents must refrain from dropping bags in front of the gates to the garden refuse sites, as it is causing additional health risks. DSW is not operating with a full staff compliment, which means someone who’s supposed to be working elsewhere, has to be brought in to clear it.
“With the security cluster spread across a relatively large area, it is impossible to post a guard at these facilities, and anyone found in contravention will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”

Travelling cross province

Only a magistrate or SAPS station commander can supply a cross province permit, which will only be given in extenuating circumstances and supported by relevant documentation. In the case of a funeral, a copy or either the death certificate or notice of funeral needs to be tabled and the permit will only be valid for 48 hours.

Municipal services

In some cases municipal departments continue to function, although at a much reduced scale, as certain tasks cannot be left until after lockdown. Residents are requested not to interfere with officials, as all work, overtime and resources are pre-approved by management prior to implementation.
