CCPO reels in Amanzimtoti housebreakers

With assistance from ET’s Tony Lokker, a stolen lawnmower and pellet gun that was sold in Mangweni last week were recovered.

A suspect who broke into Amanzimtoti Tennis Club two weeks ago was nabbed after an informant reported his whereabouts to CCPO committee member, George Snodey on Sunday, 12 April. When he, response officer Logan Naidoo and some detectives arrived at the location, the informants had already subdued the suspect and he was taken to Toti SAPS, where he was charged and detained.

Snodey received another call from his informant that a housebreaker he was looking for in connection with break-ins in Somerset Way and Mount Road was spotted. Backed up by supervisor Isaac Mkhize and some guards, he was apprehended in Mangweni.

With assistance from ET’s Tony Lokker and information from an informer a stolen lawnmower and pellet gun that was sold in Mangweni last week were recovered from the buyer who bought them from a known housebreaker. The lawnmower would probably have been stolen from the Kissin Lane and Maple Road area early on Wednesday morning, 8 April. Call Snodey on 083-655-4302 if it’s yours.

His vigilance and persistence netted a much bigger fish after he spotted a suspicious looking vehicle parked outside a property in Bengu Road in the early hours. An investigation revealed the vehicle was established as stolen and ET’s tactical response team and Metro Police officers responded to enter the property to locate the driver, who tried to escape.

The keys to the vehicle, stolen in a house breaking on Beach Road, Amanzimtoti in February, were found in his possession. The victims were on holiday from Gauteng, when their flat was burgled and the car stolen, among many other items. The 39-year-old suspect, who is allegedly implicated in possessing and dealing in narcotics, stolen property and theft of motor vehicle, with links to other organised crimes, was arrested.
