The shelters will offer basic provisions like beds, blankets and hygiene supplies.

The following protocol has been put into place for the provisioning of shelters and safe and hygienic spaces for vulnerable groups in Toti and the city, in particular the homeless people.

The Durban Exhibition Centre will be used as a screening centre where the homeless will be assisted by the health service and social workers, as well as NGOs.

They will be tagged with armbands and transported to the following shelters: Moses Mabida Stadium, People’s Park West, Jewish Club outer field, Dennis Hurley Centre, YMCA, Strollers and Albert Park. These shelters, which offer basic provisions like beds, blankets and hygiene supplies, were ready for occupation on Friday, 27 March.
