Returning to the scene of the crime does bode well for Amanzimtoti thieves

An alert member of the public recognised these suspects from photos circulated last week.

Quick response by the CCPO, ET Rapid Response, Metro Police and Blue Security members ensured a suspect was arrested within minutes of being involved in an armed robbery in Doonside on Monday, 23 March.

“A mother and son were walking over the footbridge just after dark when they were attacked, with the son sustaining a stab wound to the upper leg area. Two suspects escaped with her bag, watch and phone. However, once we got the message and it went out on our radios, the search was on,” said committee member, George Snodey.

CCPO response officer, Isaac Ngema spotted the suspects walking north on the highway. Fortunately Metro Police immediately responded and together with CCPO and Blue Security patrol officer, Mbuyiselo ‘triple M’ Mdunjane, they jammed the suspects on the Toti River bridge. Unfortunately, one managed to escape. “The arrested suspect, who had the phone on him, took us to the area where they had thrown the handbag and it was soon located with the watch in it.”
